Originally developed by Rabcat and added to Microgaming’s portfolio in 2014, Castle Builder is the Bitcoin slot game that transports players into a magical medieval realm to build castles fit for a king. This is a highly entertaining video slot which features one of the most detailed and fascinating storylines around.
The intricate plot is more like a fully-blown video game than just a standard slot. Set in three fairytale kingdoms, Castle Builder puts the player in the role of an expert architect who has been given the task of constructing homes for a set of beautiful princesses.
Castle Builder takes place across five reels and an adjustable amount of up to 15 pay lines. The screen is split in two halves, with the reels taking up just a section of space on the left-hand side. The rest of the screen is dedicated to the castle itself, which gets bigger and bigger as the game plays out (keep reading for more details about how this works).
The five reels are filled with beautifully designed images relating to the fantasy world this Bitcoin slot is set in. The main symbols are the king, his princess daughters and his son. Lower value symbols include money pouches, jewellery boxes, treasure chests and castle doors. Then, of course, there is a whole set of building materials and the castle builder himself.
To spin these reels, players are required to click the up and down arrows beneath the screen to set their coin value from 1c to $1 and then select the number of active pay lines from 0-15. This will result in an overall wager between 15c and $15. These are pretty low stakes, making Castle Builder best suited to low rollers and those more interested in playing a nicely designed game with an enticing story as opposed to high stakes players searching for massive amounts of cash.
Unusually for a Microgaming slot, Castle Builder doesn’t have a free spins round. Instead, the game has a truly unique bonus feature which is where the castle building theme really comes to life.
Every time a matching set of two or more building materials appear on one pay line, those materials will be added to the castle being built on the right side of the screen. The bigger the castle becomes and the more types of building material it uses up, the higher the value will be.
A total of 11 material types are required to complete the castle. When this has been achieved, a short video scene will play out, depicting one of the king’s daughters inside her new fortress, being presented with three princely potential suitors. It is then up to the player to pick one of these love interests for the princess, revealing a mystery instant cash prize. The size of the prize is determined by the value of the castle.
After this is completed, players will begin building another castle for the king’s next daughter. This will continue until all the buildings across all of the kingdoms have been built.
It’s easy to see why Castle Builder was shortlisted for the 2014 Game of the Year award. This is a beautifully themed Bitcoin game which has been thrilling slot spinners as soon as it was launched, thanks to its engrossing characters and entertaining, fairytale storyline. Serious slot spinners on the lookout for big jackpots and cash payouts should steer clear of Castle Builder, but for a bit of escapism and fun – it can’t be beat.
